SALISBURY — A report of shots fired on East Council Street came in around 5 p.m. Tuesday at the same time a Salisbury police officer was within sight of the property.
The officer spotted several young men in the front yard of a property and actually saw one of the young men fire off a round before six or seven men ran into the house. The house is near the corner of Faith Road. That officer called for assistance, including from the department’s Special Response Team (SRT).
Officers on the scene heard several men run out of the back of the house and caught up with at least one who was armed.
Jayden Donato, 21, was charged with misdemeanor discharging a firearm inside the city limits and released on a written promise to appear.
But officers were concerned there may be someone still inside, and they had gathered information there were still weapons inside. Members of the SRT called out, and when no one came out, they did use gas to force anyone out. No one was inside, but police did, in the interim, get a search warrant and spent several hours going through the house. Additional firearms were found and police do expect additional charges.
Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in securing the scene until the search warrant arrived.
There were no injuries in the incident and the scene was cleared before 9 p.m.
